Take control of the Internet on the go

Everyone is going crazy about the iPhone and it’s less functional cousin, the iTouch. Stores are filled with mobile phone deals that’ll allow you to buy these pieces of technology at sometimes ridiculous prices. But in the webmaster and system admin community, these Apple products are a bit of a joke, because of their lack of actual functionality beyond their cosmetic looks and lack of decent and useful apps. Luckily, excellent apps made by the community have changed that. Here’s a rundown of three of them that we find very useful and thoroughly recommend to anyone who wants to take control of what happens on the World Wide Web while on the go.

An excellent tool for any webmaster of Internet hardcore user is the Network Ping app. It allows you to ping and traceroute any IP address, and it also includes a very handy Telnet console for basic access to routers and servers. Another app we recommend is the Network Utility application. This very simple, but powerful tool allows you to ping servers, do TCP port scans, get WHOIS and IP address info and even see the geographic location of any given server. To conclude our rundown of useful Iphone and Itouch apps, we’d like to talk to you about SpeedTest. This application will measure the speed of your iPhone’s internet connection, both upload and download speeds, and will keep an account of previous speed tests.
